Winter and Spring 2026 RS Conversations

With professors Daniel Morgan and Gaurika Mehta

Students gather in the RS office to hear Karl Lampley.

On February 23, the RS Department hosted the Winter Quarter RS Conversation, entitled "Deracializing the American Empire? The Original Sin in the Age of Trump." It featured Prof. Karl Lampley, who drew on insights from his recently published book, A Black Theology of the American Empire, to lead a lively discussion about the role of race and religion in US history and contemporary politics. Nearly 30 students attended.

Students gather in the RS office to hear Paul Schutz.

On May 11, the RS Department hosted the Spring Quarter RS Conversation, entitled "Salvation, Flourishing, and Hope for Creation: What Does Christianity Contribute?" It featured Prof. Paul Schutz, who engaged students in a rich conversation about the central themes of his recently published (and award-winning!) book, A Theology of Flourishing. He focused on what "flourishing" looks like, and how theology, religion, and society might look different if flourishing is placed at their center.
